The intent of this scholarship is to give pre-service world language teachers the opportunity to experience the professional world of language teachers. This time spent with other, experienced educators will give university students the chance to increase their capacity as future world language teachers, to network with other professionals, and to learn about the OWLA organization. The conference offers over 100 sessions and workshops that will enhance the knowledge gained in the classroom and in student teaching.
Amount of the Scholarship: Shall be established in the annual budget and could cover additional workshops, hotel expenses, transportation and meals.
Requirements for the Application of the Scholarship
Be an active Student OWLA Member at the time of the application;
Be in a world language teacher preparation program at a private or public Ohio institution;
Complete an online application including:
A 250-300 word essay explaining why world language education is the chosen profession and what is hoped to benefit from attending the conference;
The completed electronic recommendation form from your university professor or student-teaching cooperating teacher;
Proof of current student status at an Ohio institution.
Individuals are eligible to receive this scholarship no more than two times. Priority will be given to those who have not previously received an OWLA Conference Scholarship.
Requirements upon receipt of the scholarship: Scholarship winners will be expected to:
Register for the conference, using the code which makes it $0
Attend the scholarship breakfast on Friday morning (if this is budgeted, compliments of OWLA, in addition to the scholarship);
Attend the Conference Introduction session;
Attend multiple sessions throughout the conference;
Fulfill two hours of assigned duties;
Attend the Awards Ceremony and luncheon when the luncheon is budgeted (compliments of OWLA, in addition to the scholarship);
Receive the scholarship check at the end of the conference and upon fulfillment of the stated requirements.
Additional Optional Participation:
Write a reflection piece about how the various sessions attended have increased your capacity as a future world language teacher to be given to the Scholarship Chair no later than May 1 and shared with the OWLA Board and/or published in The Cardinal;
Register, pay for, and attend extra-fee workshops.

Time spent with other educators will give new teachers the chance to increase their capacity as world language teachers, to network with other professionals, and to learn about the OWLA organization. The conference offers sessions and workshops that will enhance both knowledge and practices gained in the classroom.

Be a current Professional OWLA Member at the time of the application;
Be a world language teacher at a private, public, community or charter K-12 school or a private or public post-secondary Ohio institution.

The completed electronic recommendation form from your principal or department chair;
Proof of the number of years you have been teaching.
